Tax credits for HVAC and lighting investments are real, even if you spent no money this year!

The laws allow for investments made from 2006 on. Your company can have its return amended to take advantage of these credits.

What Might Qualify?

The tax credit program is for HVAC and lighting related projects. Process equipment (things that are manufacturing related) may qualify for accelerated depreciation (see House Bill 179 for Economic recovery Act Depreciation of Real Property). We can also help you with this. Other items that may qualify include:

  • Roofs, (Was there a new roof done? Did the insulation get enhanced or changed such that the R Value has now been increased?)
  • Windows (are the new windows now done with insulated glass?)
  • Insulation to walls or ceilings
  • Heating equipment, new boiler steam or hot water
  • New furnaces or roof top units
  • Cooling equipment, new chiller or condensing unit or roof top unit
  • Lighting, new fixtures, ballasts or time clocks or photocells or motion sensors
  • New controls to include an energy management system that sets back temperatures or turns things on/off.

Things to Remember About Tax Credits

  • Tax credits are important for people that are making money and have taxes to pay.
  • Tax credits are better than deductions.

What's the Process?

The law requires that buildings attempting to get these credits meet certain standards. A qualified professional with the proper credentials then performs an analysis and certifies that your installation qualifies. This is done with specific energy modeling software that is recognized by the IRS. This is a joint effort with your tax professionals and our firm.

Our firm is certified to perform this work and we own the proper software. The overall cost is usually a fraction of the benefits you are able to recieve.

We have been doing this kind of energy analysis for 25 years. We have experienced licensed professional engineers on staff.
